On July 7 of 2015, Hotel Leo-Grand has been opened in city of Batumi, Goergia. Investment of $40 million, 180 rooms and suites and world class service. And still, this kind of hotel was not equipped with orderly working fire safety system.

On November 25, 2017, at around 8 p.m massive fire took place in the hotel. According to the information, provided by the ministry of internal affairs, the incident left 11 dead and 15 injured. As witnesses report, the fire took place in the hotel spa, according to another opinion, the fire started in the hotel-casino.

By the number of victims, this fire is the biggest in region. Investigation started based on Georgian National Criminal Code 243, that is about violation of fire safety rules that caused the death of more than 2 people.
